This is a a great book for web hosts and businesses alike that are wanting to resell services or find the type of web hosts best for their business. A practical guide to learning about all the types of web hosts out there, filled with key resources and tips for deciding on a web hosting specialty, improving customer service, and developing business partnerships. Covers many types of technologies, PHP, ASP, JSP, and include security and provider considerations. Alot of material is covered here, all very useful.

This book covers alot of territory, from covering the many types of web hosts, to infrastructure and security considerations (including example policies and procedures), domain registrars, to enhancing customer service and support, developing hosting partnerships, to becoming a reseller. I especially liked the comparison of different technologies, in an easy to understand way. For businesses, it provides an indepth coverage of the market, types of technologies (ASP, JSP, PHP, etc.) and how to decide on the type of web host(s) that will best meet their business goals. Is filled with online references, and a handy appendix section. Recommend highly as a resource guide for IT consultants, web host newbies and professionals, and businesses.

I purchased this book because I am starting a web hosting company. I already knew a lot of what I needed to know but wanted a book to guide me through some of the more “hairy” pieces of this business. Instead what I got was a broad overview. I may keep it around to show my family what I’m doing but I certainly won’t be using it to help me with my business.I certainly would not call it “A complete strategy” as is stated on the cover.

I’ve read nearly every title out there on web hosting, and Carl Burnham’s book is an informative read. Yes, it’s a little simplistic in approach, but I don’t think he wanted to take for granted that you knew everything there was to know before reading his book. If you did, why would you need to read the book? If you’re going to read this, also get The Complete Web Hosting Kit Professional by Ken Joy. It not only contains a complete how-to guide, but also comes with the web hosting and e-mail software ready to use out of the box.

I found this book to be overly simplistic; it does not go into much detail in any area. As I will be joining a Web Hosting company, I was looking for something to get me up to speed on this subject. Unfortunately it is mainly general advice in here, and not the nitty gritty I was looking for.
